Tick-borne Borrelia miyamotoi was identified as the cause of a young woman’s recurring high fever, extreme muscle aches and fatigue, cognitive problems and paresthesia. It took nearly four years for a diagnosis because infections are rare and scientists know little about the bacterium, but it is becoming more common, says infectious disease specialist Kris Paolino.
